Lauderdale County, AL — A woman was killed in a boating accident in Lauderdale County, Alabama, on Saturday, August 15, 2015. The accident took place on Wilson Lake, about a mile east of the Wilson Dam, around 10:15 at night.
Local sources say that 79-Catherine Ekholm died whenever the pontoon boat she was sharing with several others stalled and was hit by a barge.
Several others aboard the boat at the time were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Their injuries are not thought to be serious. One person aboard the boat has yet to be located. Local officials are continuing their search for 62-year-old Sid Elliot.
Right now, why the barge crashed into the pontoon boat is unknown. Officials are currently investigating.
