Man Hit and Killed by Semi-Truck after Pedestrian Accident in Stanton, CA

Stanton, CA — Police responded to calls of a fatal pedestrian accident this past Monday (August 17, 2015) in Stanton, where a man was reportedly hit by an 18-wheeler truck. This happened around 2:15 p.m. on Monday afternoon, at the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Beach Boulevard.

Stanton PD said that a man was apparently crossing Beach Boulevard at Chapman Avenue when he was hit by an 18-wheeler whose driver was trying to turn from Chapman onto Beach Boulevard.

The trucker said that he wasn’t able to see the man. His 18-wheeler had been driving east along Chapman Avenue and was turning south (a right-hand turn) when he hit and killed the man on foot.

The victim’s name wasn’t released.

Commentary:

It seems like this kind of accident is appearing more and more in the news these days. A giant dump truck or tractor-trailer is trying to make a turn in a fairly densely populated area of town and ends up running over someone that they didn’t see. Who’s at fault here? The trucker? The person crossing the road?

To be honest, it’s probably a little bit of both. However, I would expect that truck drivers are on high alert when driving through the city and if they’re not, then something needs to change. I don’t want to start point the blame before we get all the evidence and facts in, but I can’t help wondering if maybe this trucker took the turn a little too fast and didn’t realize there was someone in the crosswalk.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
