Munster Police Arrested Karina Real for Suspected DUI after Accident Injures Two

Munster, IN — Police think that alcohol was a factor in a Munster accident last month, Sunday, July 12, 2015 that left a man and his mother injured. They said that 20-year old Karina Real crashed her Honda into a Chevrolet early that Sunday morning, leaving herself injured along with the woman driving the SUV and her adult son, who was from Sumava Resorts.

This was around 7:00 a.m. that Sunday morning, at the intersection of Calumet Avenue and Fisher Street.

Karina Real was reportedly headed south along Calumet that morning and was apparently driving very fast when she crashed into the side of a Chevrolet that was trying to turn left from the northbound lanes onto Fisher Street.

The two vehicles collided and the woman driving the Chevy and her adult son were both rushed to a hospital. The man in the SUV, who was from Sumava Resorts, was much more seriously hurt and was actually taken to two separate hospitals to get the care he required.

Meanwhile, police said that Karina Real was also injured, but also suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time. She has since been charged DUI causing bodily injury.

Commentary:

Every state has slightly different definitions of what “underage” means and what kinds of things it applies toward, but it’s always illegal for someone under 21 to drink alcohol, much less drink and drive. Where did this young woman get her alcohol from? Did a careless clerk at a liquor store or gas station play a role here by selling alcohol to a minor? If that’s the case, then it’s not just the young woman who needs to be facing charges here, but also that place of business.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
