Beaumont, TX — The local police have released an identity in association with last Thursday’s fatality. They confirmed that 28-year old Zacharia Kondos, 28 years old, passed away when his motorcycle was hit by an SUV on I-10’s access road at MLK Jr Parkway.
The reports released so far aren’t very clear as to what happened, but it appears that Kondos’ motorcycle may have run a red light when it collided with the SUV.
Kondos was headed east on the I-10 access road around midnight on Thursday when it was hit by an SUV that was headed along MLK Jr. Parkway. None of the people in the SUV were harmed, but the accident left Kondos fatally injured. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later passed away. Those in the SUV later told police that they had a green light.
Right now, this is still being investigated.
Edit: It’s come to my attention that Kondos was actually being pursued by BPD officers, who had observed him breaking a traffic law minutes earlier at Center St. & Ashley St. in the Old Town area. It’s believed that Kondos may have had a suspended license at the time and perhaps a warrant as well.
