Reports say that the bucket truck was traveling so fast at the time, that it pushed the pickup 300 feet from where it was stopped. That’s typically a sign that the driver had no idea what was going on on the road ahead of him. If that turns out to be the case here, there are some very tough questions that driver is going to be asked. If they weren’t watching the road, what were they watching? That’s just dangerous, irresponsible behavior, and an innocent man is paying the price for it. Now, a lot of times this sort of thing is easy to blame on a driver. But we often have to look deeper to see where bad driving habits are formed. Many times, an employer won’t have the attitude toward safety that they should. If something like that turns out to be the case here, that needs to be examined and changes need to be made. In the end, the point is to make sure that this doesn’t happen again.
