Crockett, TX — A semi-truck driver was hurt early Wednesday morning (August 5, 2015) after an accident between his rig and a Union Pacific train. This happened in Houston County, south of Crockett. The trucker was later identified by the local DPS as Michael Turner, 58 years old.
According to the news reports, Turner had been driving his white semi-truck south on Highway 19 that Wednesday morning around 7:30 a.m. when he slowed down to turn onto County Road 3450.
He tried to drive over the railroad tracks directly in front of him, troopers said, but his trailer got caught in a culvert (ditch) and it was stuck on the tracks.
A passing Union Pacific train then crashed into the cab and trailer, though Turner was actually able to jump out at the last minute. The jump injured him, however, and he was taken to a local hospital to be treated.
