Waltham, MA — A woman who hasn’t been identified yet, but was listed as 75 years old, was taken to a hospital with major injuries after a box trailer came loose and hit her. This happened along School Street in Waltham at about 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, August 5, 2015. Authorities in Waltham said that a Randolph trucker had been headed along School Street that morning and was near Francis Street (shown on the map below) when the box trailer he was hauling suddenly broke free.

The trailer careened onto the sidewalk and hit a 75-year old woman who was walking. She suffered multiple injuries, including broken bones, and was rushed to a hospital.

The truck driver, who hasn’t been identified either, was charged by police for not having a valid license (it was suspended, allegedly), for having defective equipment, and for other undisclosed offenses.

Commentary:

Does anybody know more about what happened here? Who did this trucker work for? If what the news says is accurate, and defective equipment really did cause this accident, then someone needs to not only look into the truck driver, but look at who put him on the road in the first place — his employer.

At the end of the day, they’re the ones responsible for making sure their drivers are certified, trained, licensed

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
