Corpus Christi, TX — The police in Corpus Christi have arrested a driver earlier this month (pictured left) after he caused an accident on the JFK Causeway, injured a teenager, and was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. This accident happened on Thursday night, July 23, at about 12:00 a.m. along the JFK Causeway southbound toward Padre Island. They are claiming that 23-year old Rodney John Cervantes was under the influence when he drove into the back of an SUV that had pulled over on the shoulder to change a flat tire.

A 17-year old young man had been driving along JFK that night when something went wrong and a tire gave out. As he was working on changing the tire, his mother pulled onto the shoulder as well, driving an SUV.

As the teen was working on the tire, it appears that Cervantes was speeding along the highway in his Chevy Inmpala when he lost control and veered onto the shoulder.

His Chevy crashed into the back of the stopped SUV, which was pushed forward and hit the 17-year old working on the tire. While nobody was seriously injured here, the police said that they still plan on charging Cervantes with DWI and maybe intoxication assault as well.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
