Worthington, Pennsylvania — Two natural gas company workers were injured in a gas explosion on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
The accident happened at about 2:30 p.m. when one man operating a backhoe hit a gas line sparking an explosion at a compression station on Fox Road, a news report said. The workers were trying to clear a right-of-way when the accident happened.
The backhoe driver was seriously burned when the machine caught fire. He was flown to a hospital for his injuries.
Another man was burned trying to help the backhoe driver. He was also taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The gas compression site is owned by EQT and the gas line is owned by Snyder Brothers, an oil and gas producer in East Franklin. It was reported that they men were contract employees of EQT.
The accident remains under investigation.
