Orange, VA — Ryan McCall, 16, was identified as the pilot who died earlier this year after his small plane crashed near the Orange County Airport. Back on March 29, 2015, the NTSB reported a small Piper, single-engine fixed-wing plane crashing just east of the airport.
The pilot, later identified as McCall, died in the crash.
The news reported on this as well, saying that McCall was a student pilot with only 30.6 hours of experience. He had only flown for 2.7 hours by himself and was planning on flying to the Farmville Regional Airport.
Though it’s been several months since the actual crash, the NTSB hasn’t really made any progress on what caused the crash. Witnesses reported seeing the plane bank to the left a little too sharply shortly after takeoff, which may have been a factor.
However, others said that a thin trail of smoke/exhaust was visible just before the crash. NTSB is hopefully doing to look into that as well.
