Leonard Raddohl Hospitalized After Semi-Truck Accident in Moorhead, MN

Moorhead, MN — A man was hospitalized after being involved in an accident with a semi-truck in Moorhead, Minnesota, on Monda, July 20, 2015. The accident took place on Interstate 94, just west of the city, around 2:15 in the afternoon.

Local police have identified the man injured in the accident as 80-year-old Leonard Raddohl. Local reports say that Raddohl was headed west on the interstate when a semi-truck being driven by 49-year-old Brian Quigley tried to pass him, but instead side-swiped his vehicle.

Quigley ended up driving through a set of highway cables, and coming to a stop in a ditch off the side of the road. He wasn’t injured in the accident. Raddohl, on the other hand, suffered non-life-threatening injuries when a camper attached to the back of his truck rolled off the side of the road.

Raddohl was taken to Sanford Medical Center for treatment. The accident is still being investigated.

Reports say that the driver of the 18-wheeler side-swiped the victim. And I think there are a couple of things we may be able to infer from that. From the sound of it, the driver of the big rig failed to get far enough over into the next lane, and was going too fast when passing the victim’s vehicle. Now, this brings up a question: Did this happen simply because the driver made some bad choices, or because the company he works for just has too laid-back an attitude toward safety on the road. It’s very easy to blame truck drivers whenever these sorts of things happen. But sometimes you have to dig a little deeper, and find that drivers sometimes have bad habits on the road because they’re being taught bad habits back at the office. Which of those two caused this accident, we don’t yet know.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
