Horicon, WI — A man was hospitalized following an accident with an 18-wheeler in Horicon, Wisconsin, on Thursday, July 16, 2015. The accident happened on Highway 33, near Noble Road, around 8:15 in the morning.
Local reports have identified 20-year-old Robert Babiak as the man who was headed east on the highway driving a Chevrolet Malibu. Babiak crossed the road’s center line and crashed into an 18-wheeler that was headed west, which caused it to roll over.
The 18-wheeler was hauling a tank of ethanol which exploded when the truck rolled.
Babiak suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident and was taken to Summit Hospital by medical helicopter. The driver of the 18-wheeler was identified as 56-year-old Carl Wintheiser. He suffered only minor injuries in the crash and was also taken to Summit.
What caused the accident is still being investigated. No other injuries were reported.
