Granite Falls, MN — Several people were injured in an accident with a school bus in Granite Falls, Minnesota, on Monday, July 13, 2015. The accident took place on Highway 212, near mile marker 50, around 7:00 in the morning.
Local reports say that a Kia Soul crossed the highway’s center line and crashed into a school bus, driving it off the road, where it landed on its side. Eleven children, ages one to six, and two adults were on board. All of them suffered minor injuries in the accident.
The driver of the Kia suffered non-life-threatening injuries. His passenger was airlifted from the scene, although the extent of her injuries is unknown.
What caused the accident is currently unknown, and officials are investigating. No decision has been made yet on possible charges.

Every now and then, you see an accident in which the at-fault party probably isn’t going to have enough insurance to cover all of the damage they’ve done. I can’t say for sure, but I’d imagine that this is one of those instances. Should someone find themselves in a situation like this, it’s worth asking the school district if they carry a UIM policy. UIM stands for uninsured motorist. A UIM policy will step in and cover the damage that an at-fault party can’t cover themselves. Often, you’ll see trucking companies carrying these, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see a school district carrying one as well.
