Sanger, TX — On Sunday of this past week, paramedics were called out to the area of the Rocky Ridge Recreation Ranch camp in response to an injured person. Apparently, there was an accident involving a person on a dirt bike (adult or child is unknown at this point) and a medical helicopter was sent out to take them to a hospital.
This appeared to be early Sunday afternoon, July 12, but it’s not clear what caused the accident or who was involved.
Rocky Ridge Recreation Ranch appears to be a rural area west of Sanger that’s used for off-road vehicles, ATVs, dirt bikes, etc.

Commentary:
We get questions all the time concerning accidents where kids at summer camps or weekend retreats are hurt in accidents. The underlying concern people have is often whether or not the “release” form they have you sign covers the accident in question. In short, it might not. “Simple” negligence is covered in basic liability release forms that you sign just about everywhere: skydiving businesses, go-karts, laser tag, you name it. But what they don’t cover is “gross” negligence, which means anything that is willful, wanton, or “shocks the senses.” In other words, serious stuff.
Who decides what constitutes gross or simply negligence? At the end of the day, a jury does. If this dirt bike was given to a child who didn’t have the right kind of safety hear or even the right kind of training (negligent entrustment), then what would a jury think about that? What if it was an adult or an employee of the place?
