Commentary:

Considering witnesses indicated that they’d managed to get the offending driver’s license plates, tracking down a vehicle and a driver may not be as difficult as I’ve seen in many cases. That being said, once the car is pinpointed and a driver is determined, the investigation shouldn’t just grind to a halt. Finding out why the driver ran should be the next order of business. Were they overcome with the fight-or-flight mechanism that many of would face in a similar situation, and they simply picked the wrong one? Or is it possible that they’d spent the night drinking, and knew they should’ve never been behind the wheel in the first place? Did they have an expired, revoked, or suspended driver’s license? Believe it or not, the answers to these questions could show us that there was more than one responsible party, especially if the driver had spent the evening at a bar where staff failed in their legal duty to cut them off when they felt they were approaching the legal limit of intoxication?

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
