Charlotte, NC — Just north of the NC-SC state line on I-77, a tractor-trailer was in a serious accident that left the driver with unknown injuries.
This happened at about 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2015 near Exit 1. So far, not many details have been updated, but it appears that a tractor-trailer was headed south toward South Carolina when it lost control near Exit 1 and swerved off the side.
The truck then plunged into a shallow creek and one person was taken from the scene with serious injuries. That person’s name wasn’t released, but the news strongly implied it was the truck driver.
The cause of the accident needs to be investigated a little further.

Commentary:
One thing that ought to be looked into here is the possibility that a mechanical failure or malfunction caused this truck to lose control. People are often quick to point the finger when another driver runs off the road and crashes, but truck drivers are in a bit of a special situation since their trucks often go tens of thousands of miles before seeing maintenance. Not all trucks, mind you, but companies that don’t care about driver safety won’t take the time to make sure their drivers are behind the wheels of road-worthy rigs.
