Bonne Terre — A worker’s death was reported by OSHA recently. Delfino Ramirez was killed in Bonne Terre after he accidentally fell from a rooftop while working for Williams Contractors, LLC on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.
It’s not clear how the accident happened, nor exactly where. OSHA opened up an investigation into this company, though they haven’t closed it yet. Sometimes, an OSHA investigation can take up to 1 year, often times taking several months before any preliminary data is given.
We’ll post more updates about this particular accident as they become available.

Commentary:
I won’t sit here and pretend like I know anything about what happened, but the minute I hear “roof” when describing an accident, I immediately get a little worried. I’ve handled a lot of work injury cases over the years, and one thing I can tell you is that safety equipment violations are some of the most common things I see when investigating a case. When it comes to workers on roofs, however, it almost deserves it’s own category because many, many employers don’t properly train or equip their workers before sending up a ladder. The reality is that most people think it’s no big deal, but it is, and you need the right kind of safety gear if you’re going to be more than 6 feet off the ground, per the Department of Labor. I don’t know if this worker was adequately trained and equipped to be on the roof that day, but I’d be curious to know more about what happened.
