Semi-Truck Hits Car, Truck in Serious Salem, PA Accident on Route 22: 3 Injured

Salem, PA — On Tuesday morning, June 30, 2015, there was a major accident in Salem along Route 22 that appears to have been started by a semi-truck losing control. 3 people were injured – 1 critically injured – after a semi-truck owned by Stat Transport crashed into a black Kia, then hit a white truck, and crashed into several parked cars at a dealership.

This was at about 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, right in front of the Victor Super Center used car lot. Apparently, the Stat Transport semi-truck was turning from Mark Drive onto Route 22 when it crashed into a black Kia, then swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a white pickup truck that was owned by McCarl’s – a construction company.

Also injured was a woman worker on the side of the road, who may have been working for Matcon Diamond. Police said that debris from the accident struck and hurt her.

Right now, they’re trying to re-construct yesterday’s accident and haven’t determined what exactly happened yet. No names are being released at this time and when the news called Stat Transport, they were not answering.

Commentary:

Before I say anything, I think it should be understood that there simply isn’t enough information here to be making assumptions yet. Yes, it certainly appears that the semi-truck driver here is in the wrong, but there may be more than what we’re seeing in the news.

The one thing I would be concerned about here is that I looked up this semi-truck company’s profile and, according to the DOT, they have a fair number of vehicle maintenance violations for only have 3 trucks, plus a couple of Hours of Service violations. I don’t know if that means we should be worried about what happened in this accident, but it shouldn’t be ignored altogether. A lot of trucking accidents happen when drivers get careless and are either taking their eyes off the road or rushing around.

By the way, maybe “Stat” in “Stat Trucking Inc” is short for something else, but the Latin term statim is what the medical field refers to when they say, “Get me that scalpel, stat!” It’s a term that means hurried, fast, or immediately. A good association for a business running supplies or making deliveries — not so good when it comes to being safe and careful.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
