Fishersville, VA — Four children and an adult were sent to the hospital after being involved in an accident with an 18-wheeler in Fishersville, Virginia, on Friday, June 12, 2015. The accident took place on Interstate 64, near mile marker 90.
Reports say that the minivan the victims were riding in blew a tire, which caused the driver to crash into the cab of a passing 18-wheeler. The van rolled over on its side and came to a stop in the middle of the interstate.
The 18-wheeler’s trailer rolled over, although the can remained upright. The driver wasn’t hurt.
The victims were taken to Augusta Health for their injuries. There’s been no information on their condition.
The accident is currently being investigated.

I’d be interested in learning a little more about what caused the victims’ tire to blow out. Many people don’t realize this, but a tire isn’t one, single piece of rubber, but several pieces, bonded together. And like anything else made of several pieces, it can be defective. If this accident was caused because of a defect in the tire, then it’s possible that liability could lie with the manufacturer. I’d say that that’s one of the first things the investigation needs to look into.
