Michael Hopkins, One Other Injured in Car Accident in Stafford Township, NJ

Stafford Township, NJ — Two people were hurt in a car accident involving three vehicles in Stafford Township, New Jersey, on Sunday, May 24, 2015. The accident took place at the intersection of Route 72 and Doc Cramer Blvd.

Police have identified 46-year-old Dawn Murray as the driver of a Buick Century who failed to slow down for stopping traffic ahead of her and crashed into the back of a Toyota Highlander being driven by 28-year-old Jennifer Eng. That force of the collision sent the Highlander into the back of a PT Cruiser being driven by 18-year-old Michael Hopkins.

Hopkins, as well as a 17-year-old girl inside his vehicle, were taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center for their injuries.

Murray was also taken to SOMC. Police cited her for careless driving.

Unfortunately, I see too many accidents just like this one. Whenever a driver collides with slowing traffic, one of two things has happened. Either their brakes have failed — which is claimed to happen much more than it actually does — or the driver just wasn’t watching the road. Traffic slowing at a light or a construction zone doesn’t sneak up on you. When a vehicle doesn’t have enough time to come to a stop, the driver is doing something wrong. Driving at a safe speed and at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you, as well as a driver keeping both eyes on the road would help to stop a lot of accidents like this one.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
