Car Accident leaves Austin Sawyer Dead Outside Stony Ford, California

STONY FORD, CA — California Highway Patrol have confirmed that Austin Sawyer was the teenager that died in a car accident outside Stonyford, California on Saturday, May 30th, 2015. Sources out of Chico, California said that the accident happened at about 7:30 Saturday morning.

19-year-old Austin Sawyer was killed when the car he was driving crashed on Co Rd 306. Police think that Sawyer’s vehicle veered off the road for reasons still under investigation before it struck a utility pole just off the pavement.

Sawyer was fatally injured in the accident.

Local police are still looking into the details of the crash.

Commentary:

Reports said that the vehicle burst into flames after the collision, and if this is accurate, has anybody thought to trace the fire to it’s source? What would this matter in the grand scheme of things? Well, if some kind of safety system within the vehicle failed and resulted in the blaze, there is a possibility that the manufacturer could bear a significant portion of the liability. While the defect in the vehicle may not have been responsible for the crash itself, if there was a problem within the car it may have taken this accident from serious to fatal. Cars roll off the assembly line with potentially fatal defects all the time, but several accidents have to happen before a manufacturer notices the issue. Nobody is going to know if this is one such case unless trained people look in the right places.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
