Colombia, MO — The driver of a cement truck was hospitalized following a single-vehicle accident in Colombia, Missouri, on Monday, June 1, 2015. The accident happened on Old Mill Creek Road, around 8:00 in the morning.
The driver’s name hasn’t been released. Police say that the driver over-corrected and ran his truck off the road. The truck was driving on soft ground and rolled over. Authorities say that the weight of the truck also contributed to the crash.
The truck belonged to Boone Quarries.
Emergency crews had to remove both the dashboard and the steering wheel, as well as the roof of the truck before the driver could be extricated. The entire process took over an hour.
The extent of the man’s injuries is not clear at this time. The accident is still being investigated.

Accidents like this are the reason businesses have workers’ comp. As most know, workers’ comp will pay out benefits in the case of an on-the-job accident. Workers’ comp laws will typically prevent an employee from filing a claim against the employer. However, if a third party is involved in the accident, workers’ comp restrictions don’t apply, and the injured worker is free to file a claim against the other company. If a defect in the cement truck were at fault for this accident, the manufacturer could potentially be held liable for it.
