Lake Cachuma, CA — Three women were hospitalized after being injured when a butane tank exploded at Lake Cachuma, in Santa Barbara County, California. The accident happened on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.
It was around 9:00 in the morning when the women were using a camp stove. The butane tank exploded while the stove was being used. The three women all suffered first- and second-degree burns.
They were treated at the scene before being taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The full extent of their injuries is unknown.
Officials are currently investigating to see what caused the tank to explode.

While there are many things that could cause an accident like this — especially at a camp site — it’s always important to look and see if there wasn’t something wrong with the tank itself. While it doesn’t happen often, sometimes defects in a tank like this can cause accidents to happen. If the problem lied with the tank itself, then liability for the accident could fall on the manufacturer.
