Sussex, NJ — A man who has only been identified as “Paul” was seriously injured in a skydiving accident that took place in Sussex, New Jersey, on Thursday, May 14, 2015. Paul was flying out of Sussex Airport, the base of operations for Skydive Sussex.
Local reports say that Paul engaged in a “low high-speed turn” before crashing into the ground. It’s not clear just how extensive his injuries are. Emergency workers transported the man to a local hospital.
No other injuries have been reported and police are currently investigating the crash.

In any accident like this, it’s very important that any sort of equipment that may have malfunctioned is inspected, if only to rule it out as a possible cause. There are undoubtedly a million different waivers that places like Skydive Sussex make one sign before they actually ever lay eyes on a parachute, however, they could still face some liability if their equipment manlfunctioned. We don’t know that that’s what happened here, obviously, but it’s a question that needs to be answered.
