Corpus Christi, TX — A report was recently released from Corpus Christi, saying that a woman in a Jeep who stopped for some kittens in the middle of the road was critically injured after she was rear-ended by a truck. Police said this happened on the Crosstown Expressway at about 11:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, May 14, 2015.
The woman in the Jeep was headed north along the Crosstown Expressway that morning and was coming up on the Agnes Street exit when she and a Ford Mustang stopped so they could help some apparently lost kittens.
Two teenagers in the Mustang got out to help the kittens, but the 34-year old woman in the Jeep stayed inside. That’s when a pickup truck came along and failed to brake in time, crashing into the Jeep & pushing it into the Mustang.
Police said that the Jeep’s driver, the 34-year old woman, had to be hospitalized with critical head injuries. The two tees in the Mustang didn’t appear to be hurt, however.
As of Friday, the CCPD is investigating this some more and haven’t decided who was responsible for the wreck or whether charges should be filed.

Commentary:
These are simply my thoughts, but failing to brake for slowed or stopped traffic is negligence no matter how you slice it. The reason why the person slowed down isn’t nearly as important as how they slowed down. I say that because I can see a lot of people thinking that rescuing cats on the side of the road is unnecessarily dangerous activity. Now, if the vehicles here slammed on their brakes didn’t give any kind of warning, then I could see some of the fault being on them, but it doesn’t sound like that’s the case. Furthermore, how close was the truck to the Jeep when he noticed it was slowing down? Was he a safe distance, or was he tailgating her?
