Commentary:
With any situation involving a chain-reaction accident, there is almost always a great deal of confusion and uncertainty hovering over the facts behind the crash. Usually, several drivers are pointing fingers at each other with multiple, competing theories of fault. However, with the way the news made this accident sound, it seems pretty apparent that the tractor-trailer that rear-ended the first vehicle is probably the one that is going to take away the lion’s share of the blame with this situation. Why? Well, if the news reports are correct, and the truck driver changed lanes immediately before hitting an SUV from behind, chances are, the truck driver didn’t have the good sense to look before he leaped. However, just because a trucking company appears to be at fault doesn’t mean they’re going to be in any kind of rush to make things right. Sadly trucking companies have a habit of fighting every single claim that comes their way with the same intense tenacity, and they do this because it works. Put bluntly, these trucking companies have an entire industry’s lifetime in dealing with major accidents on a near-weekly basis – while their victims have only had to deal with a handful of fender-benders in their driving history. Needless to say that the experience is outmatched, which is why leveling the playing field with experience of your own is the best way to get these trucking companies to comply and take some accountability.
