Truck drivers are held to a higher standard for a reason. They’re capable of causing a great amount of damage with only a single mistake. Now, I don’t believe that the driver involved in this accident is a horrible person or anything like that. But he made a mistake, and it seems that a good amount of luck was the only reason that mistake didn’t spawn an accident that was much worse than it turned out to be. For that, the driver has to be held responsible. This serves two purposes. One, it helps victims get the help they need following an accident like this. And two, it puts these trucking companies beneath a microscope, so if changes need to be made to their training or safety policies, they can be.
