Commentary:
The official report released by authorities said that the tractor-trailer was trying to pass the victim’s SUV when the two collided. Right off the bat, I’m met with quite a few questions that really need to be answered. First of all, was passing even legal where the accident took place? Or did a truck driver get impatient after working under the trucking industry’s “time is money” psychology? I’ve seen truck drivers make illegal u-turns, run lights, speed, and pass vehicles illegally just to shave a few meager seconds off a total trip-time. Is this worth it? Is taking potentially deadly or dangerous risks in order to save time really the way a trucking company wants to run a business? While there aren’t a great deal of details about this accident, something in my gut tells me that this one needs a much closer look.
