SLATON, TX — One person was hurt in a single-vehicle accident that happened outside Slaton, Texas on Thursday, April 23rd, 2015. News agencies out of the are said that the accident took place at around 7:30 Thursday night.

One woman was taken to the hospital after the Chevy pickup truck she was driving drove off the road for reasons currently under investigation while driving on Highway 84. Officials said that the pickup truck rolled several times before it came to a rest.

We could talk all day long about what caused this vehicle to drive off the road, but what I’d like to focus on right now is how the pickup truck fared and performed in the crash itself. Why? Because a great number of pickup trucks and SUVs have serious issues when it comes to rollover accidents. What do I mean? Pickup trucks and SUVs tend to have very high centers of gravity, which means they’re very prone to rollovers. This is something vehicle design engineers know about, so you’d think they’d prepare the truck with safety features for a rollover accident, right? Wrong. These vehicles have been rollover prone for years, yet manufacturers keep releasing vehicles whose roofs cave in at the drop of a hat in these accidents. If this accident could have had a better outcome with less-serious injuries in a better constructed vehicle, then the manufacturer needs to be put into a position to explain why they’ve not prepared their product for a very foreseeable accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
