BRYAN, TX — One person was taken to the hospital after an accident involving a city owned truck hauling a trailer in Bryan, Texas on Thursday, April 23rd, 2015. Authorities said that the accident happened sometime Thursday morning.

A passenger was hurt when the truck hauling a trailer they were in crashed on Highway 6 near the intersection with Highway 21. Police said that the trailer shifted, causing the truck to lose control and roll into the median before it came to a rest on it’s top.

The passenger was taken to St Joseph Hospital with serious injuries. Officials said that the truck is owned by the City of Hearne, and that the truck may have been hauling concrete when it crashed.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Commentary:

The news mentioned that the city truck may have been hauling concrete when the accident happened, and that the load in the trailer may have shifted. This brings up an interesting angle that needs to be looked into. Were the occupants in the truck simply picking up and dropping off the concrete, or was another company responsible for loading it in the trailer? If another company failed to properly secure the concrete in the trailer when they loaded it, this accident may not be as complicated as a workers’ compensation issue. It may be as simple as filing a claim against the company that haphazardly loaded the trailer, resulting in the concrete shifting on the road. A claim against the company responsible for loading the trailer would circumvent all the hardships and disadvantages that tend to come with a workers’ comp claim.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
