Winston-Salem, NC — Two people were hospitalized after an accident that involved four vehicles, including a dump truck, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. The accident took place on the ramp toward U.S. 52 from Interstate 40.
The driver of a dump truck told officials that vehicles had come to a stop on the ramp and that he couldn’t stop in time to avoid a collision. He crashed into the vehicle in front of him, while two other vehicles rear-ended him.
One driver involved in the crash had to be extricated by authorities. That driver and another were taken to a local hospital.
The names of those involved in the accident have not been released. The accident is still being investigated.

I didn’t witness this accident happen, so I can’t say for sure. It’s very possible that the cars stopped on the ramp completely took the dump truck driver by surprise, and there was just no way he could have stopped in time. But in many accidents I’ve seen, I couldn’t stop in time is often code for I was driving too fast, or too closely, or wasn’t paying attention to the road. Again, I can’t say as I wasn’t there. But I suspect that there’s a chance this accident wasn’t completely unavoidable.
