EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — An unidentified worker was hurt after an explosion at a baker in East Providence, Rhode Island on Tuesday, April 21st, 2015. News reports out of Providence said that the accident took place at about 10:15 Tuesday night.

Police think that a worker was hurt when an explosion tore through the Taunton Avenue Bakery on Taunton Avenue. Authorities believe the worker went to light a pilot light when the explosion erupted.

Commentary:

One news report I came across said that the gas utility company had been installing new lines the day before the accident. Now, there could have been a million reasons this explosion could have happened, but I can’t be the only one who sees the coincidence that points to a possible gas leak brought on by faulty work from a utility company. In the last decades, the techniques and technology used to trace fires and explosions to their origin has only improved, and I think putting those forensic tools to good use here may show that a utility company is responsible for the accident. This would more than likely benefit the victim that was hurt because it would save them the painful process of going through an antiquated workers’ compensation solution in favor of a negligence claim against the utility company. Any time there is a way to circumvent workers’ comp, I see it as the favorable option to victims.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
