Monroe, OH — A man suffered burns to his face and neck after an explosion at a chemical plant in Monroe, Ohio, on Friday, April 17, 2015. The accident took place at Alfrebro LLC, a company which manufactures aroma chemicals.
The man injured in the blast was moving a chemical from a 55-gallon drum to another container. Police are currently investigating the accident, although they say they don’t know what caused the explosion.
The injured worker’s name was not released. Emergency workers transported the man to a hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

On the job accidents such as this one are usually going to be handled through an employer’s workers’ comp policy. As most know, WC offers an injured employee benefits in the case of an accident like this. However, a drawback to the system is that it blocks an employee from filing a claim against their employer. However, it doesn’t prevent them from filing a claim against a third party, should a third party bear some responsibility for the accident, of course. If a third party was involved in this accident somehow — perhaps a piece of equipment didn’t work the way it should — then the injured worker would have a potential claim against them. Of course, this is just conjecture at this point. However, it’s something that’s worth looking into.
