Commentary:
Let’s take a step back for a minute from what caused the truck to crash, and focus a little heavier on how the truck performed in the accident. If you knew the horrifying statistics from single-vehicle tractor-trailer accidents that I’ve seen over the years. Despite truck’s being large, and comprised of lots of metal, they aren’t exactly crash-worthy. You wouldn’t hide from a tornado in the worlds tallest aluminum can pyramid, would you? My point is, just because something is large doesn’t mean it can withstand a disaster. If the design, or poor construction of the truck in this accident took things from “serious”, to “fatal”, then the manufacturer could easily bear a portion of the liability in the crash. All it would take to know for sure is the right people looking in the right places, and asking the right questions.
