Commentary:

Many people are surprised to learn just how bad single-vehicle tractor-trailer accidents can be for truck drivers. Just by looking at such massive trucks, you’d think they’d be fine in an accident, but just because a truck is large, and physically imposing, does not make it a tank. The key is in the construction and design. A tank made out of tin foil, and a tank made out of plated steel are two completely different ball games. Tractor-trailers are no different, and many people would be absolutely appalled to learn the horrific statistics regarding injury and death with single-vehicle tractor-trailer accidents. If a consumer grade mass-market vehicle had similar statistics, you’d see it on every news channel. These trucks, despite their formidable size, for the most part, are flimsily constructed, and have been for years. If the driver would have been unhurt in a better-built or better designed vehicle, then the truck’s manufacturer could bear some liability, depending on what happened in the accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
