Commentary:

Does anybody have an idea what caused this bus to go off the road? I’ve been handling commercial vehicle and tractor-trailer accidents like this for a long, long time and have yet to see a single truck, bus, car, or motorcycle lose control that was going at a speed that was safe for conditions. I see photos from traffic cameras from the scene of the accident that show rainy conditions, which gives us a few clues as to what may have happened. Was the bus going too fast for conditions? Notice I did not say speeding, which is a totally different ball game than speeding. If a sports car is going the posted speed limit in whiteout blizzard weather, it is safe to say that they are going too fast fast for conditions. If the bus was going too fast to control in wet weather, the company running the bus needs to be put on the hook for the actions of their driver. Again, it depends on information we don’t yet have, so I’d be interested to know more, if anybody is willing to share.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
