San Antonio, TX: Man Injured by Car Accident on Martin with Hit-and-Run Driver

San Antonio, TX — There was a serious two-car accident reported this past Sunday (April 5, 2015) in central San Antonio that involved a hit-and-run driver and an elderly man in critical condition. Police said that a man, 73, was badly injured and had to be taken to University Hospital after his car was hit head-on by another driver on Martin Street.

This accident happened at about midnight on Sunday at the intersection of Martin St. and Nueces St. Police said that the 73-year old man was driving his car east along Martin Street that night when a black car headed west suddenly crashed into him.

The details of what happened, exactly, haven’t been released, but the news made it sound like this was a head-on collision. The driver of the black car actually fled the scene after the wreck, leaving the elderly man behind. He had to be cut out of his car by emergency workers and was immediately taken to a hospital to be treated for critical injuries.

The police are searching for the male driver of the black car (along with another male passenger), but haven’t made any updates as of Tuesday.

Commentary:

Hit-and-run accidents are difficult situations because the party at fault has, for obvious reasons, made it difficult to hold them accountable for their actions. If the driver here is ever found, he may not only face charges for FSRA (failure to stop and render aid), but he may also be civilly liable for the damage and injuries caused by the accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
