Miami, FL — Earlier this week, there was a major accident on the HEFT (Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike) that started when a wheelbarrow fell off onto the highway and ended with two people injured. One of the people injured is in critical condition, troopers with the FHP said.
This accident happened on Wednesday morning (April 1, 2015) in the southbound lanes of the turnpike. Cars were driving near Exit 25/8th Street when a wheelbarrow fell out of a truck and caused several drivers to suddenly swerve.
A semi-truck and five other vehicles tried to move out of the way, but lost control and crashed into each other. The semi-truck, which was hauling double trailers, actually flipped over as a result. The accident left two people injured, one of them critically injured.
The driver of the truck that lost the wheelbarrow hasn’t been identified yet, but the FHP is still searching.
