Marshall, MI — A young seventh-grade boy getting on a school bus in rural Marshall last Friday (March 20, 2015) was critically injured after a passing pickup truck hit him. David Newman, 12, was reportedly still in the hospital at last update after this accident, which happened along F Drive North.
According to the news reports so far, it appears that a school bus for Marshall Public Schools was stopped and had its lights flashing to let David Newman get on at F Drive — near his house. This was at about 6:45 a.m. in the morning.
As Newman cross the road, however, a passing pickup truck didn’t yield to the bus’ lights or stop sign and struck Newman in the road. The driver said he tried to swerve, but it was too late.
The police said that the driver may face charges later. Newman was taken to a hospital immediately, where he was treated for serious injuries and remained there as of Monday morning.
