Las Vegas, NV — A report coming out of Las Vegas, Nevada says that a homeless man was killed after being run over by a semi-truck. The accident happened on Sunday, September 21, 2014.
From what the report explains, a homeless man was sleeping under the truck’s trailer. The driver of the truck wasn’t aware of this and drove away, killing the man. Emergency workers arriving on the scene pronounced the man dead.
The accident occurred near the intersection of 6th Street and Mesquite. Police are still investigating the accident.

Look, I’m sure the driver didn’t mean for this to happen. It’s tragic, but let’s not just write this off as something that was unavoidable. I think it’s easy to put the blame on the homeless man, because he was sleeping in a dangerous spot. But I think that’s only half the problem. At the end of the day, truck drivers have certain inspection duties, and it’s just the case that a lot of those get left by the wayside. Obviously, that shouldn’t have happened. And had the driver of the truck gone around his vehicle and inspected it the way he should have, there’s a very good possibility that this accident wouldn’t have happened. Drivers — especially drivers of commercial vehicles — can’t afford to cut corners.
