Valparaiso, NE — An accident between a pickup truck and a school bus left a man dead on Thursday, August 14, 2014. The accident took place at the intersection of County Road 29 and County Road H, around 7:30 in the morning.
According to reports, a Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling south on 29 when it hit an East Butler school bus. The driver of the truck, who hasn’t been named, died after being taken to Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln. Two others inside the truck were injured.
Authorities have said that corn is planted at the intersection where the accident occurred, going all the way up to the side of road, and that the obscured visibility likely contributed to the accident.
Police say that three people inside the truck were not wearing seat belts. Two, including the driver, were ejected from the truck in the crash. The bus was carrying twelve people, including the driver. None were seriously injured, but were still taken to local hospitals.
No citations have been issued.
