LEON COUNTY, TX — A two pickup truck accident left two drivers dead in Leon County, Texas on Monday, July 21st, 2014, according to the news report released by KXXV.

Authorities say that they believe James Wesner was killed when the Ford F-550 pickup truck he was driving experienced a tire blowout and drove into the path of a Ford F 150 pickup truck while driving on Highway 79 sometime Monday afternoon.

Scene of the Accidnet

Investigators pronounced James Wesner dead on the scene, while the driver of the other truck was identified as James Gibson, who was taken to East Texas Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The investigation into the accident is being handled by Leon County officials.

Commentary:

One fact in the news really grabs my attention. Tire blowout accidents are often dismissed by people as unavoidable accidents, but I strongly disagree. People seem to think that tires have not advanced much since the advent of the wheel, but in reality, these things are not carved from one big hunk of stone like they used to, they aren’t even molded of one big piece of a rubber, they are actually two that are glued together, and if that glue dissolved, or something similar happened, the tire manufacturer could bear some liability in this case.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
