Commentary:
Two facts relayed in this news summary should raise a few eyebrows, to say the least. The fact that this was a minor in possession of the vehicle, and potentially intoxicated should sound bells and sirens in people’s minds when they pour over the details of this accident. Even if this person was not under the influence, the fact that they were entrusted with a pickup truck could make the owner of the truck responsible in some part due to negligent entrustment, if they were aware they were incompetent or unlicensed. Furthermore, if alcohol has played a role in the accident, and it was purchased at a beer or liquor store where they were not ID’d, the store could be liable in some part for the negligent provision of alcohol. Either way, the accident needs a closer look by someone who knows what to look for.
