Driver Arrested in College Station, TX After Alleged DUI Hit-and-Run Accident that Injures Man

College Station, TX — There was a hit-and-run accident this past Sunday, June 1, that left a man in College Station injured. Police said that 30-year old Gabino Reyes-Vazquez was arrested for DWI after his Mazda 6 crashed into a pickup truck and injured its driver on Wellborn Road.

The accident happened on Sunday evening, near the intersection of Navarro and Wellborn. Gabino Reyes-Vazquez was driving his Mazda 6 along Wellborn Road when he lost control and veered off the road and onto a sidewalk.

His smaller car went into a parking lot and crashed into a Ford F-250 truck. The owner, who was standing near the pickup, was thrown several feet by the impact and was injured. He was taken to a hospital by responding paramedics.

Reyes-Vazquez tried to flee the scene, but police soon apprehended him. He was charged with DWI and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Commentary:

Since alcohol was mentioned as a factor here, let’s consider the implications. If the driver had been drinking that evening, it stands to reason he might have gotten drunk at a bar or a restaurant. If that’s the case, then I think it’s very likely that a bartender or serve over-poured his drinks that night, contributing to the accident.

Most people don’t realize this, but the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission exists to regulate the sale and service of alcohol. When someone over-serves a customer, it’s not just irresponsible, it’s against the law. Obviously, this driver made his own choices by choosing to flee the scene, but I think it’s worthwhile to consider that perhaps a bar or a restaurant was also involved.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
