LUBBOCK, TX — A tractor-trailer collision claimed the lives of three motorists in Lubbock, Texas on Monday, May 5th, 2014, according to a news article from KCBD.
Texas Department of Public Safety representatives have said that they have reason to suspect that 21-year-old Tyler Wagers was killed when the shuttle van in which he was a passenger became involved in a tractor-trailer accident of an unspecified nature while driving near the intersection of FM 41 and Highway 87 on Monday.
Scene of the Accident
Tyler Wagers was killed in the crash, as were both 21-year-old Calvin Voneravong and 26-year-old Karolina Mora.
The investigation into the accident is currently being led by officials from the Texas Highway Patrol working with local authorities.
Commentary:
This news article is fairly sparse on details, but considering the article mentions that the accident took place at an intersection, it is not outside the realm of possibility that the truck may have run the red light or stop sign. If this turns out to be the case, proving it may be easier than some would assume. The technology to track these trucks has only improved in recent years, and all it would take is a trained investigator looking at the truck’s ECM (electronic control module) to determine the speed at which the truck was traveling at the time of the crash, as well as determining if the truck stopped or not. If this truck did not stop at the intersection when they were required to, the trucking company can and should be taken to task for the accident.
