Gatesville, TX — A child was injured in an accident involving a school bus in Gatesville, Texas, this morning. The accident occurred in the 2000 block of Waco Street, around seven in the morning.
The accident took place when a child was getting out of a car and a special needs school bus started backing up. The bus hit the car’s door, which in turn hit the child.
Emergency workers coming onto the scene reported that the child’s injuries seemed to be minor. He was taken to a local hospital to be examined just in case.

Commentary
Officials will of course be examining this accident to see if there’s some detail that may have been overlooked, but if it turns out to have happened the way it was reported about, then the driver of the bus is very clearly at fault. The drivers of vehicles have to be on alert for things like this, literally all of the time. That’s just the nature of driving a bus, or a FedEx truck, or an 18-wheeler. Fortunately, the child’s injuries don’t seem to be severe. Unfortunately, reclaiming any sort of damages from a municipal entity, which the school bus belongs to, is incredibly difficult. However, if the injuries do turn out to be small and the only other damage incurred was that done to the vehicle, the school district would hopefully do the right thing and pay for it.
