Commentary:
The news article really doesn’t give us much to work off of, but it is not outside the realm of possibility that the driver of the truck was distracted behind the wheel. Just the other day I watched a news piece on truckers and texting, where a camera was posted on a highway, and nearly every single trucker was on their phone. The idea that truck drivers are impervious to the same kind of distractions regular drivers face every day is both incorrect, and dangerous. Luckily, investigators can examine the drivers phone, his GPS to see if a route was being programmed, and look at the electronic control moduole to see if he was speeding at the time of the accident. The technology to investigate these crashes has only improved, but time is important with these situations because evidence often vanishes over time.
