Commentary
I originally thought that the SUV’s driver had sped away after this accident, but it turns out that the woman driving did stop to render aid. Now, one of the news reports I read said that charges might be filed against the woman if it turns out that she had been on her cellphone at the time of the accident. I can’t stress enough how important it is to remain attentive behind the wheel. Any kind of cellphone activity, like texting or changing a song, can be deadly and it puts everyone else on the road in danger.
Even if the woman killed had been walking out in the roadway, if the SUV’s driver was on her phone, she wouldn’t have reacted in time anyway. I’m not sure if that still merits charges from the local police, but I would imagine failure to pay attention or failure to keep a lookout might be among the charges she’s given. Of course, I’m speculating on that front, but it’s a possibility.
