San Angelo, TX — Two drivers were hurt in a collision in San Angelo, Texas, this morning. The accident occurred on the Houston Harte Expressway, near the Glenna Street exit when a black Toyota truck rear-ended a car, causing it to roll over.Authorities say that the driver claimed he couldn’t see because the sun was in his eyes. The injuries sustained in the accident were minor.
Police reported that the accident did cause two or three subsequent fender-benders.
The names of those involved in the crash haven’t been released. Other details, such as how fast the drivers were traveling, also have yet to be released. Authorities have said that it was unclear whether or not those involved were wearing their seat belts.

The report I read said specifically that the driver of the truck that caused the accident claimed to be incapacitated because the sun was in his eyes. I thought that was interesting because, speaking from a legal point of view, that isn’t a defense. If it were, there would be all sorts of things drivers could cite as distractions that led to accidents. In this case, the general rule is that if there’s something impeding your ability to drive, and to drive safely, you need to make the appropriate adjustments. If the sun is in your eyes, flip the visor down or wear sunglasses.
