Dix Hills, NY — Two men were hospitalized following an 18-wheeler accident in Dix Hills, New York, on Monday, August 17, 2015. The accident took place on the Long Island Expressway, near exit 52.
Police identified 35-year-old Corey Harrison as the driver of a van that sideswiped a tractor-trailer, which caused his vehicle to roll over.
While reports don’t offer up too many details on what happens, it appears that Harrison’s vehicle struck another, injuring its driver. Both men suffered non-life0threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
What caused the initial accident isn’t clear. The accident is still being investigated.

Accidents like this one can be a little tricky, because sometimes drivers cause a lot more damage than their insurance policies are able to cover. That looks like it might be the case here. Reports say that the driver was in a van that sideswiped an 18-wheeler and crashed into another vehicle. It’s very possible that his insurance will be spread thin between the two vehicles he’s damaged (not to mention the other driver he put in the hospital). However, if the driver’s van was commercially owned, then his employer would effectively be liable for the crash.
Pictures from the scene of the accident show the driver’s van lying on its side. However, no commercial decals can be made out. That’s probably the best place to start. Once the victim’s know who owns the van, they’ll have a better idea of how this accident is going to be handled.
